Several times, I have heard stories about the subways here in Shanghai being so packed that people had to be shoved inside. This morning, Tracey and I went downtown to get IMAX tickets for Avatar. We went during the morning rush and sure enough, we were so crammed into the subway that I could have lifted my feet off the ground and not hit the ground. Tracey quote: “Don’t even talk about being clautrophobic right now or I’ll freak out.”
Side note: no Avatar tix available. At all. Ever. Apparently, this is the most popular IMAX film in Chinese history.

We were very bored in Shanghai today, so we decided to explore a bit. This led to two very bored little girls. However, the day was saved by a strange little park just off Huai Hai Road. The bee is the kind of thing that haunts my nightmares.

As I was driving to school this morning, I couldn’t help but marvel at the view. I usually take a back alley route to school on my (brand new) scooter and as I was driving, I looked up to see this view, which is to me, a good summary of modern China.
As an added bonus, I have included a picture of what Harper and Abbey looked like at the breakfast table this morning.

Harper, Abbey and I went to Dairy Queen on a tuk-tuk. The driver was so excited to be taking us that he skipped the light and just sat there so that he could get off his bike and take a picture.
Naturally, I took his picture, too. Not enough people get to see the real face of China, especially when looking through the eyes of western media. I love the Chinese people and find them to be good humored and friendly.
However, as you might be able to tell from that last photo, I will never like their food.
